INAX AND FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT

The spirit and technique of production, the realization of the architect's ideals became the starting point of INAX.

In the 1900s, as the number of foreign tourists to Japan increased, the Imperial Hotel hired Frank Lloyd Wright, one of the greatest American architects, to design the new building. Since the wall tiles and crockery are made from clay from the Chita Peninsula in Aichi Prefecture and they need to be molded to the original design using special firing techniques, a factory has been established in Tokoname to serve this need.

Hatsunojo Ina and his son Chozaburo were invited as technical advisors for this project. When the hotel was completed, they took advantage of factory workers and equipment to form Ina Seito, which later became INAX.

The bricks produced by craftsmen after many trials under the guidance of Hatsunojo and Chozaburo Ina created a valuable space worthy of welcoming distinguished guests from all over the world.
