FRESH FOOD - HEALTHY TET

Families frequently hoard food in preparation for the Lunar New Year. There are numerous ways to store and preserve food over the Tet holiday season in this day and age of technological advancement. However, we must rely not just on appliances such as refrigerators and freezers, but also on a wise and scientific arrangement to ensure that food keeps nutrition for each family meal. We must specifically accomplish the following:

1. Cleaning the refrigerator

The refrigerator, with its job of storing food, is an environment for many germs that cannot be seen with the naked eye. To keep food and food fresh, we must clean and clean the family refrigerator on a regular basis. To be safe, unplug the refrigerator and let it cool down for a few minutes throughout the cleaning procedure.

The refrigerator must be cleaned and neatly arranged

2. Sort food before putting it in the fridge

Each type of food has unique qualities and requires different storage temperatures. Make sure you arrange your groceries before putting them in the fridge. Food should be classified into three types: raw food, prepared food, and canned food. Then, in the refrigerator, sort these three goods into separate compartments.

Users should keep fresh meat and fish in the freezer compartment of the refrigerator at an average temperature of roughly -18 degrees Celsius, as bacteria cannot thrive at this temperature. Soft beverages, confectionery, and prepared foods must be stored in a cool compartment with a temperature of around 0 degrees Celsius. Vegetables and fruits should be stored at temperatures ranging from 0 to 0°C - 4 degrees Celsius.

3. Preserving raw foods

  • Raw plant food, such as vegetables, tubers, fruits, and so on, should be stored in the refrigerator's lower level rather than the frozen compartment since it is easier to stamp. Take note that the plants should be carefully cleaned and dried before being divided into different boxes.
  • Wrapping cauliflower, carrots, onions, green onions, lemons, ginger, and other veggies in plastic helps keep them fresh for a long time. Fresh meats should be stored in the freezer after purchase to keep for a long period.
  • Raw animal products, such as meat, fish, hog, beef, poultry, shellfish, and so on, should be washed and drained before being divided into portions suitable for usage. Food must be tightly wrapped and stored in the freezer section to avoid pathogen cross-contamination from raw to cooked food.

4. Cooked food storage

  • Cooked meals must be thoroughly cooled before being refrigerated, then covered and stored in the refrigerator.
  • If the meal is still hot after being refrigerated, it will deteriorate, condense water vapor, and have a detrimental influence on health when consumed.
  • Cooked food should not be mixed with raw food to avoid bacterial cross-contamination. To maintain safety and cleanliness, always reheat food. Avoid putting unsealed cans in the refrigerator because this will contaminate the food inside with a metallic taste.

5. Keep track of your food's expiration date

Because each type of food has a different expiration date, it is vital to label the expiration date on each Tet item to avoid food illness during the first few days of the New Year. We should not keep food in the refrigerator for an extended period of time. Many studies suggest that the longer meat and fish are stored in the refrigerator, the easier it is for them to deteriorate, reducing their nutritious value and producing many intermediates that are damaging to the users' health.
